Is rescue about saving as many lives as possible, or trying to help those who need it the most? Should it be about quantity or quality? This question is difficult to answer, but in short, it depends on our capacity at any given time.
Dangjin Dog Meat Farm
A Message from Our Founder, From the Frontlines of Korea
It has been 3 weeks since I arrived in Korea to continue our work from our latest dog meat farm shutdown. Since arriving, I have been busy working at our partner shelters and visiting our dogs at the shelters and training schools. I am taking the opportunity to not only lend a helping hand, but to listen to the shelter managers – their concerns, frustrations, what our dogs need, and how we can do better.
1000 Adopted Korean Rescue Dogs!
It’s official! With the adoption of our beautiful Great Pyrenees named Great, Free Korean Dogs has now successfully found forever homes for 1000 Korean rescue dogs (and counting!) in Canada and the US.
So, You Want to Shut Down a Dog Meat Farm?
We wish it was as simple as saving all the dogs and finding them forever homes. But in truth, it’s a scramble to put many puzzle pieces together to make the endeavor a successful one. It’s the reason it took us 2 years to prepare for it, and why we’re still talking about it 2 years later.
Scarlet Leaves Her Scars Behind For Her Forever Home
Scarlet was among the 69 dogs who were rescued from the Dangjin dog meat farm in 2018. She was found in a filthy, rusted cage by herself with patches of fur, itchy skin, and had obviously had a litter not long ago, although they were nowhere to be found on the farm.
An Update On Our Dosa Dog Meat Rescues!
On August 7th, 2020 Free Korean Dogs answered a call for help to rescue 6 Dosa dogs who would have either drowned in the recent floods or slaughtered for a celebratory meal during the last day of Boknal. Our rescue was a success, and we’ve taken the last few weeks to address their medical needs and get to know our newest friends.

Our Search For Our Perfect Puppers
From the day I was born, there was always a dog in my life. I’d never had one of my very own, though – they were always “the family dog”. When my boyfriend and I moved in together, I brought up the topic of us getting a dog. He was never a “dog person”, so the conversation continued for at least a year until he finally agreed that we could get a dog. I had known for years that my first dog would be a rescue. The dogs my family had were always purebred and from a breeder, but I knew that I wanted to open my heart to a dog who was in need of a safe, loving home.

We are the change we seek
With a new year comes new resolutions, and we have big goals on the horizon. Four and a half years ago, we would have never imagined we would be where we are today. Before Free Korean Dogs (FKD) was established, our founder and executive director EK never thought she would lead, much less institute an organization devoted to international rescue.
