One of the biggest challenges for dog rescue in Korea is to find a place to shelter rescued dogs. That’s why we are so grateful to Ms Jung and her Chungdo Shelter.
Update: We are happy to report that the Jeju dogs, recently rescued from Jeju Island, are all doing very well in our shelter in Ilsan, Korea.
Jeju Island is a popular tourist destination off the south tip of the Korean peninsula. That is where 19 dogs were recently rescued and shipped all the way to the Free Korean Dogs rescue shelter north west of Seoul.
Winter is coming in Korea and it’s getting cold at our rescue shelter in Ilsan. Jinoak and EK are busy winterizing the shelter so we can keep the dogs warm through the cold Korean winter.
Saturday, October 22nd, 2016, marked the first annual Cause 4 Canines fundraising event in Oakville, Ontario. The event was hosted and organized by Alana Lewis, an ardent supporter of the movement to end the dog meat trade.
Two of our lucky rescues landed safely yesterday in Winnipeg, Canada. They received a warm welcome and were even featured on local television news.
We’re excited to announce that Free Korean Dogs is establishing a new shelter in Korea. The planned opening date is January, 2017 and there’s already a long lineup of rescue dogs in waiting.
On Saturday, August 13th, EK Park will lead a demonstration at the Moran dog meat market in Seoul, Korea. The protest is timed to mark Malbok, the last day of Boknal, the dog days of summer, during which thousands of dogs are slaughtered to make dog meat soup.
The owner of a dog meat farm in Jeonju, South Korea, has agreed to surrender the dogs and close the farm. However, many of the rescued dogs are very sick and need immediate veterinary care.
July 23rd marked our first ever protest to end the Korean dog meat trade. Demonstrations were held in multiple locations around the world.
