Update: Monty has found a forever home in Toronto. Yay!

Monty is currently with a foster family in Thornhill.

Monty was among the 69 dogs who were rescued from the Dangjin dog meat farm in 2018. He was found in a filthy, rusted cage with skin issues and malnutrition. After spending some time at a shelter, he was moved to a boarding house where he lived with about 80 other dogs until leaving Korea.

Monty is a sweet and gentle boy who enjoys the company of people, but is shy in opening up (but never in a reactive/aggressive way). In the beginning, he will observe at a distance and follow people around cautiously. However, he likes to be included and stay closeby. With time he learns to open up and build trust. After a few days with his foster, he began to allow petting and showed his belly for the first time! Being food motivated also helps in earning his trust and helping him make positive associations.

With other dogs, he is calm and respectful. He is quite a gentleman and understands cues from other dogs on how to engage. Overall, he does enjoy the company of other dogs and playing with them.

Indoors, Monty enjoys playing with his toys (chew toys especially) and is good at entertaining himself. He is quiet and mellow, and not demanding of attention. Outside, he loves to run around the yard, again entertaining himself.

Monty’s ideal adopter is someone who has a secure yard. Having 1 or 2 friendly dogs would help him as well: he is very submissive and gentle. Monty has already made a ton of progress and has great potential to be an amazing companion.
