Eunbee is a precious pup who overcame a challenging start in life. She was born to a mother, Sihwa, who was rescued from the Siheug dog meat farm that was shut down in May 2022.

When Sihwa gave birth to seven puppies, she was also very young. She lacked maternal instincts, and although things started out smoothly, she ended up refusing to nurse her babies and on 2 occasions attacked them when she got annoyed. Although her puppies were still too young to be weaned, they needed to be separated from Sihwa for their safety and were subsequently hand reared by our dedicated shelter staff and volunteers. She and her siblings grew up at the partner boarding house with other dogs until they flew to Canada to find their forever homes. Eunbee is currently with a foster in Coquitlam, BC where she lives in another FKD alum, an older Jindo.

Having grown up and having spent her entire life around other dogs, Eunbee is comfortable with others. She gets along well with her canine foster brother, and he is a great role model to her. Her brother is calm and mellow, which matches her energy well.

Eunbee is shy when meeting people for the first time and may startle when they make sudden movements, but is very affectionate and cuddly once given the opportunity to warm up, which doesn’t take long especially when food is involved. Eunbee loves her food and treats. Her food motivation combined with her eagerness to please makes her easy to train. She also accepts praise in the form of pets, cuddles, and belly rubs. Once she has become comfortable with her humans, she has no problem being handled or picked up, and doesn’t have any guarding issues over food, treats, or toys with her humans.

Outdoors, Eunbee is curious yet cautious. She walks well on leash overall, but may pull when she gets scared. Loud sounds and strangers walking too close to her startle her, and she will respond by either trying to run away, or hiding behind her human. She is most comfortable on routes and areas she is familiar with, where things are consistent and more predictable. That being said, Eunbee is also brave and recovers quickly.

Eunbee is working on her potty training. She currently uses pee pads when indoors and prefers to have her bowel movements outdoors (although she will use pee pads for poops as well)

Currently living in a condo, she sometimes has noise sensitivity to sounds outside the unit she is unfamiliar with. She is also startled by loud noises like the hair dryer. However, she adapts and picks up on new concepts quickly. She has a quiet personality indoors and has a good balance between sleeping and having her own quiet time, to entertaining herself with toys, to having a good cuddle session with her humans.

Despite her difficult beginning, Eunbee is a gentle and friendly girl who despite her apprehensions is very smart and adaptable. Although she is still working on her confidence in some areas, we know with time, patience, and the right supports, she will get there.

Eunbee’s ideal home would be in a quiet area without much car or people traffic. She would benefit from having a confident fur sibling she can mirror. A human who is confident yet patient and understanding helps Eunbee feel more confident in situations she may feel insecure as she trusts her human to lead. Due to her young age, she would do best in a household where humans have the time to spend quality time with her during her formative years.
