Surprise Puppies

July 23, 2022 by Sara Liao, Board of Directors & Adoption Manager Leave a Comment

Sihwa (from our recent Sihueng dog meat farm shutdown) was one of the 10 dogs we sent to training school to help her find her courage and confidence. Coming from such an awful background, she found it difficult to trust humans and would often resort to growling and showing her teeth when approached.

While our usual protocol would have been to have her spayed (and examined) before attending training school, her current state made it difficult (if not impossible) for our volunteers and vets to perform the procedure. The plan was to send her to the trainer to help her get her to a stage where the spay could be done safely for all involved.

Understandably, Sihwa was of course very skittish when she first arrived at the training school. She would spend a lot of time hiding in her crate trying to be as invisible as possible. So, it took us a while to realize her belly was slowly growing bigger and bigger. 2 weeks ago, we received a call from the trainer telling us she was pregnant, and we subsequently brought her back to our partner boarding house where she gave birth to 8 beautiful babies shortly after.

Unfortunately, 1 did not survive. But Sihwa has been very good at allowing the shelter staff and volunteers to handle her babies and is a wonderful mama. Perhaps she was feeling more vulnerable and defensive during her pregnancy. She is currently nursing her babies at our boarding house, where they will receive the proper care and socialization needed to give them the best start in life.
While they are cute and adorable, caring for puppies is a considerable commitment requiring a lot of expenses and resources. Please consider a donation to help us support our newest rescues.
Welcome to the world, puppies! We can’t wait to show you a world of love and kindness.
