NOTE: Tommy is currently with his foster in Toronto.
Tommy was found roaming the streets in an apartment complex, and was sent to a city pound. He was eventually scheduled for euthanasia when no one claimed him, but was luckily saved just in time. He lived with a foster family in Korea before flying to Canada to find his forever home.
We believe Tommy might have been someone’s pet, but was abandoned because he was aging. He has a sweet and friendly personality, and loves to snuggle with his humans. He is good with other dogs and enjoys going for walks. Tommy is a happy boy as long as he gets to spend time with his people.
His journey to Canada was understandably a bit confusing for Tommy, and he took some time to decompress and process his situation, albeit in a very sweet and calm manner. He follows his foster around wherever she goes, as he finds comfort in being in the presence of people, despite not being ready to be pet in the beginning. He wanders around the house with his tail wagging and is overall a happy boy. Tommy let his foster know when he was ready for physical affection by rubbing against her leg and asking for pets.
Being fostered in a condo, Tommy isn’t bothered by noises inside or out. He gets along well with the resident dog, although he is mostly indifferent to her. He does bark when his canine foster sister tries to eat his food, but it is more of a “complaint” rather than an act of aggression. Even when he is scared or nervous, Tommy has not displayed any act of aggression towards people or other dogs. He has a gentle personality, and takes food and treats from his foster’s hands very gently (speaking of food, he is a very food motivated boy).
When Tommy is not up and about following his human around or curiously investigating (he has not shown any destructive behaviors), he is quite independent as well, and is happy to sit in his comfort area and hanging out while his human does their thing. He would make a great work from home coworker as he is quiet and not demanding of attention. He is just happy to just be in your presence.
Tommy is in good health overall. He has nuclear sclerosis in his right eye – a bluish, transparent or cloudy haze that develops in the lens of the eye for middle aged to senior dogs. This is considered a normal part of aging, and is NOT the same as cataracts. The condition currently does not affect his vision. He does not require any treatment or medication.
Recent x-rays have showed no issues with his hips or joints. However, he has a slight limp in his back leg from degenerative joint disease. He currently does not display signs of pain, but his condition should be monitored. As a result, his adopter should be cautious of overfeeding or weight gain to avoid further stress on his joints, especially given his love and motivation for food. He should also remain active, but participate in only low impact exercises.
Tommy is a very loving boy looking for a home to spend his golden years. He would make a wonderful companion to a senior, or someone looking for a companion who does not have high exercise needs. He would love a home where his people have time to spend time with him and include him in their activities.
The adoption fee for Tommy is $260CAD.
