Background: Koon was one of 16 dogs rescued from a difficult hoarding situation where they were kept in a confined space by an elderly person. Due to the elderly’s severe illness and hospitalization, the dogs were surrendered. Initially, Koon lived in a private boarding house with other dogs before moving to a foster home earlier this year. Although he enjoyed his time with the foster family and opened up, the fostering ended quickly due to personal reasons of the foster parent, leading Koon to return to a boarding house.

Personality: Koon is initially a bit cautious but quickly warms up, wagging his tail and showing his belly. He is sweet, quiet, patient, and intelligent with medium energy.

Behaviors: Koon enjoys going for walks and behaves well on a leash. Indoors, he is calm and not destructive, preferring to nap and relax. While he’s not very interested in toys, he loves treats. He is pee-pad trained, comfortable with visitors, and has shown no negative reactions to children. Additionally, he is good with car rides and baths but dislikes the hair dryer. Koon has not displayed any signs of separation anxiety or aggression.

Socialization: Koon is an adorable boy who is initially shy around strangers but quickly warms up. He enjoys quietly following his humans around and is not demanding. With people he likes, he shows his belly and is very submissive. Koon feels a bit nervous around big dogs but overcomes it. He prefers dogs his size and is friendly towards small dogs. When encountering cats on the streets, he is mostly indifferent and non-reactive.

Health: When rescued, Koon had heartworms which have been successfully treated, and he is now heartworm-free. He has undergone a thorough vet checkup and is healthy and prepared for his forever home. Koon is neutered, microchipped, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and receives monthly internal and external parasite preventatives.

Ideal Home: An ideal home for Koon would be with someone who has experience with dogs. Having another small dog would be great as Koon enjoys playing with other dogs and feels more confident around them. A patient and understanding owner who can provide a comfortable living environment would be ideal. Koon is a lovely boy who simply needs someone to trust and be together with.
