If Woolkong was a fairy tale character, she would be the strongest, bravest, and most benevolent hero there was. Little (Wool) Kong and her siblings were dumped at a small, humble shelter in Korea. Despite being overrun with limited resources, she was provided with all the care they could afford. By the time she was about 3 years old, the shelter manager noticed an increasing limp in her step. After consulting with a handful of vets, professionals concluded she had suffered irreparable nerve damage and would no longer have control over the use of her hind legs. Although the vets could not reach a consensus as to whether her lameness is a result of injury or genetic causes, it is worthwhile to note it is not a spinal injury. Kong has full use of her tail, and it never stops wagging!

Working within the world of dog rescue we often see and hear the stigma associated with adoption. They say shelter dogs are ‘broken’; They have deeply rooted trauma and behavior issues beyond the help of rehabilitation; They are past their prime years and cannot be trained.  The list goes on.

Our Kong is living proof and the strongest example in disproving these claims. Despite the difficult life she’s lived, she is forgiving and optimistic. She doesn’t whine or complain, and is just happy to be living life. Simple pleasures are all she asks for. These include hiking, getting outside to smell the fresh air, and the companionship of people. She is happy to share her humans with other pets, whether cats or other dogs small and large. Having never had a family of her own, she knows how important it is for everyone to feel loved.

Kong currently lives with a foster in Kitchener, Ontario with another dog and cat. She’s adjusted seamlessly with no issue and is quite literally toilet trained. She has learned to relieve herself when held over the toilet, which she currently does 4 times a day. This means she no longer needs the aid of a diaper. Kong was also gifted a wheelchair recently, and she has taken to it like pro. There isn’t a mountain she can’t climb (both figuratively and literally!).

Our amazing girl doesn’t see herself as being any different than other dogs. She doesn’t “suffer” from a “disability” because she is perfectly content living her life differently. All she needs is a family to share that life with. Help us turn the page for a new chapter of Kong’s life to find her happily ever after.

The adoption fee for Kong is $280 CAD (tax included). The wheels and stroller will come with her.
