Get monthly updates about dogs like Kokoya and follow their journey from suffering to a forever-loving home.

* NOTE: Due to recent flight/travel restrictions resulting from Covid-19, it will take longer for your adopted dogs to get to you. Please only submit an application if you are able to wait until a flight volunteer can be secured. Please note we currently do not have a definitive timeline.

Our regular method of transporting dogs using flight volunteers has drastically decreased due to current flight/travel restrictions. An alternative, quicker option of flying via cargo can be made available, although at a greater financial cost. The cost can range from $1500 CAD to $2600 CAD depending on the size and weight of the dog, airline, and destination city. Dogs traveling via cargo will be able to arrive sooner as they are not dependent on travelers to bring them.

Applications for Toronto are temporarily paused in order for us to prioritize flights for adopted dogs waiting to fly home. We will return to Toronto soon, although we do not currently have a timeline for reopening. Applicants from Seattle, Washington are now eligible to apply!

Kokoya previously lived with a senior owner who loved her very much. Unfortunately, he was living with dementia and his health was declining.

Her owner suffered a fall one day, and as a result accidentally broke Kokoya’s front leg when he fell on top of her. She underwent a successful surgery and has fully healed. Several pins were implemented, and all but one were removed after it had healed. However, Kokoya still doesn’t like to bear weight on the leg. The vet suspects this is the result of lingering emotional trauma and she unconsciously avoids using it. She doesn’t show any physical signs of discomfort or pain.

When her owner’s condition worsened, his ability to care for her did as well. She was grossly overfed, often eating until she could no longer physically stomach it, and under exercised.

Sadly, her owner has since passed away, and Kokoya is now living with a foster. She is currently on a diet and receiving regular walks, slowly losing the weight she had gained. Despite losing her home and owner, Kokoya is a very friendly, affectionate, and easy going girl.

The ideal adopter for her would be a couple or a small family reitred or working from home and has experience with dogs.
