Kiki was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Milyang, Korea in 2018. However, after the rescuer realized she was having issues with her leg, she dropped her off at a boarding house and never came back.
Kiki has been living in the boarding house for the past 2 years since she was abandoned for the second time, and is always happy to see people. Among her favorite things are following people around for affection and sitting on their laps. She is extremely smart, affectionate, social, and sweet. She is pee pad trained and uses them without fail.
Upon further medical examination of her leg, this sweet girl was diagnosed with rheumatic disease, a condition which causes inflammation in her joints (much like rheumatoid arthritis in humans). Several approaches were employed to help, including acupuncture, but the results have been dismal. Although Kiki seems happy living in the boarding house, they simply cannot meet her needs in terms of individualized care while having to care for over 80 other dogs. The vet has not recommended surgery, but has advised swimming and therapeutic exercises will be extremely beneficial in providing comfort and slowing the progression.
Mixed breed, larger dogs, and shelter animals are often overlooked in Korea. Having special needs makes it nearly impossible for a dog like Kiki to find a loving home willing to accept her for who she is. She is brave and strong and doesn’t ask for anything but a warm lap to sit on. Although Kiki’s life expectancy is currently unknown, we wish to see her live out the rest of her days with a family who would be able to give her all the love and attention she desires.
