Ilho was one of the 101 dogs who were rescued from the Siheung dog meat farm in Korea in May, where he was rescued as a small puppy with his siblings. After being rescued, he moved to our partner boarding house with his siblings where he lived with other dogs, until he left Korea for Canada in search of his forever home.

Ilho did very well with his “roommates” at the boarding house, where he was friendly and social with the other dogs. He currently lives with another dogs at his foster home, a female labrador mix who is also an FKD alumni with a calm and gentle disposition. His foster sister has been a great role model to him, and he is content hanging around her as her unsolicited sidekick.

When it comes to humans, he is a little bit shy in the beginning. It took him some time to become acquainted with the volunteers at the boarding house, and about 1 week to get comfortable with his foster family in Canada, but is ultimately likes attention from the humans he has become familiar with.

But once he gets to know them, he becomes very sweet and affectionate. The boarding house manager and volunteers reported he was quiet and obedient, and listens well. He likes attention from the humans he has become familiar with. Aside from hanging out with his canine foster sister, Ilho enjoys chilling on his bed, or playing with his toys (especially puzzle-solving ones). Now that he has gained more confidence, he also enjoys spending time in the backyard watching the squirrels and exploring the surroundings.

Both the shelter manager in Korea and his Canadian foster family have described him a sweet, quiet, and smart little boy. Being a puppy, he is understandably curious about things but learns very quickly and is easily redirected when he’s doing something he shouldn’t. Being food motivated helps in this regard. In fact, he loves to follow his foster mom around the kitchen when she’s cooking, hoping she will ask him to taste test!

Ilho is potty trained and relieves himself outdoors, although he was using pee pads in the first week. He had tolerate a few visitors to the home so far and did not appear to have any issues with that so long as he’s given some time/space. In fact, he does not seem to be too bothered by loud appliance noises. However, he does occasionally get startled by shadows and reflections. He’s still trying to figure those out and you might hear a low growl when he feels threatened. Walking on a leash is still a work in progress, and we did not do much of that so as not to stress him out (esp since our house is by a busy road).

His foster family is very proud of Ilho, and so are we! – he has made wonderful progress since the first day he came! He will definitely adjust a lot quicker and better if there’s another dog in the next family but we’re sure he will continue to thrive when shown lots of love, patience and guidance.

Ilho’s ideal adopter is one living a relaxed lifestyle in a quiet home. We would prefer him to have a house with a secure yard, as he is still young and is still learning about the outside world. His adopter should be committed to continuing his socialization with people and other dogs. Having another friendly dog in the home for Ilho to play with and mirror would be very helpful.
