Dobi was among the survivors saved from the heart-wrenching Dangjin dog meat farm in 2018. This place left indelible images of suffering etched in our memories. Amidst the cages and darkness, Dobi cowered, unable to meet human eyes, his gaze a reflection of endured trauma. Additionally, the dog farm owner said that Dobi had been bitten by other dogs, causing a significant injury on his side.
In September of 2018, Dobi’s journey towards healing and change began. After the rescue, he joined fellow dosa dogs at a training school, experiencing an astonishing three-year transformation. The once fearful and withdrawn dog started shedding his apprehension. Though traces of shyness remained in interactions with strangers, the paralyzing fear that once gripped him had faded.
During an auspicious meeting with EK, our executive director, in Korea the previous year, Dobi unveiled a newfound side of himself – one brimming with affection and warmth. Yet, his size presented an obstacle; airline weight limits dashed dreams of a journey to Canada.
Today, Dobi stands as a social butterfly, embracing new encounters with an air of confidence earned through challenges. He greets strangers on the streets now. He also gets along very well with other dogs.
In his newfound life, Dobi relishes the simple pleasure of walking. Every step signifies freedom, an orchestra of scents and sensations that enrich his days. Observing him bask in the world around him is heartwarming.
Still, the road ahead is not without hurdles. Tending to Dobi’s monthly living expenses, particularly his medical needs, poses an ongoing struggle that weighs heavily on his caretakers.
