Get monthly updates about dogs like Dobi and follow their journey from suffering to a forever-loving home.
Dobi was among the survivors saved from the heart-wrenching Dangjin dog meat farm in 2018, a life that left him with deep physical and emotional scars. Upon arriving at his cage, Dobi immediately cowered into the corner, unable to make eye contact. We later learned that Dobi was one of the dogs the dog meat farm owner singled out to beat with a stick for his own amusement. We also found significant injuries on his side, which we later discovered from the farm owner were a result of being bitten by other dogs. Although he was aware of the situation, he neglected to provide any medical attention to the wounds.
Dobi joined his fellow rescues at a training school after his rescue to help him gain confidence and trust with humans. After spending 3 years, he experienced an astonishing transformation, no longer withdrawn and paralyzed from fear. Every time he was visited by EK, our executive director, he left a little bit of his past behind, unveiling a newfound side of himself. He embraces new encounters with an air of confidence, greets strangers with warmth and affection, and gets along well with other dogs.
However, the greatest obstacle for Dobi was not his emotional rehabilitation, which has been nothing short of tremendous. Instead, it is his size and weight, which exceed airline limits, that prevent him from finding his forever home abroad. At home in Korea, his breed and background are highly stigmatized, where he is seen as feral, aggressive, “dirty”, and only good for meat which makes it unfortunate the odds of his adoption locally are virtually null.
Dobi’s Sponsorship Needs
Food, Shelter, and Medical Care
Despite the potential to be an invaluable member of a lucky family, Dobi is forced to remain in a life of sanctuary at the shelter through no fault of his own. Tending to Dobi’s monthly medical needs is an ongoing commitment, which has included providing significant shelter space, food, socialization, and enrichment,
Geriatric Care Management
As Dobi grows older, his medical needs have grown significantly, and he requires routine preventative and management of common aging issues such as joint pain and arthritis.
Becoming Dobi’s sponsor translates to ensuring his continued well-being, and providing the security and care he deserves for his life in Korea.
