Background: Coco was one of 16 dogs rescued from a hoarding situation. When her elderly owner became ill and had to be hospitalized, the dogs were left on their own. Concerned neighbors reported the situation, and a shelter volunteer eventually intervened, leading to the rescue of all the dogs. Coco lived with other dogs in a Korean shelter before moving in with her foster this summer.
Personality and Socialization: Coco is a shy, quiet, and gentle soul who blossoms around those she trusts. She has a low energy level and is generally indifferent to other dogs. However, her tail wags happily when she meets a dog she connects with, and she has shown no aggression. Although she tends to get nervous in new environments, she is also very mellow and loving, closely following her trusted human—it’s truly heartwarming. She’s reserved and timid at first with new people, but with patience, her sweet and gentle nature emerges. Coco has encountered cats on walks—initially curious, she now listens to her foster and simply observes. She is mostly indifferent to children she meets outside, showing her quiet, adaptable nature.
Behaviors: Since arriving in her foster home, Coco has been gradually adjusting to her new environment, often staying close to her foster for comfort and security. She’s generally quiet, undemanding, and has shown no signs of separation anxiety. Car rides make her a bit nervous and she tends to drool, though this is improving with time. Coco is very patient during baths and grooming, allowing herself to be handled calmly. At home, she’s non-destructive and mostly quiet, spending her time napping. Outdoors, though, Coco is lively and playful, with walks being one of her favorite activities!
Health and Diet: When Coco was rescued, she was diagnosed with heartworms and anaplasmosis, but she has completed all treatments and is now healthy. Coco also had cherry eye in her right eye and a benign tumor near her neck, both of which were successfully removed. She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and receives monthly preventative care to keep her feeling her best.
Ideal Home: Coco would flourish in a quiet, calm household with someone who has experience with shy dogs. Another gentle dog in the home would help Coco feel secure, and a quiet, child- and cat-free environment is ideal. Coco is looking for a patient, understanding family ready to give her the time, guidance, and love she needs to thrive.
Coco is a gentle soul who will reward patience and compassion with boundless love and loyalty. Could you be the one she’s waiting for?
