Youngyi has been living in the shelter for the past 5 years. She was rescued from the streets of Paju, Korea in 2017 where she was roaming around, skin and bones, and suffering from severe skin diseases. After she was picked up she was sent to a high kill shelter as no one came to claim her or adopt her, and the shelter did not have the resources to provide the medical treatment she needed. As a result, she soon ended up on the euthanasia list. Luckily, she was pulled from the shelter just in time and provided care she needed. Since then, Youngyi has lived in a shelter, boarding house, and most recently a foster family in Korea while she waits for flight to Canada and forever home.

Youngyi is very friendly, social, and affectionate. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her, but when they learn how old she is they eventually walk away or tell her “you will find your home soon”. Unfortunately, while she has a lot of sympathy, no one ever steps up to offer Youngyi a home.

She was recently diagnosed with a heart condition, and requires 3 medications on an ongoing basis. Her current medications are Pimobendan 0.25mg/kg BID, Enalapril 0.5mg/kg BID, and Spironolactone 1mg/kg BID. We were told by a Canadian vet the cost would be approximately $150 (CDN) per month, but would also be significantly cheaper if a 3-month supply was purchased at a time. Another positive note is that Youngyi is small, so her expenses for costs such as food and parasite prevention, etc. would be much less compared to a larger sized dog.

Youngyi has been cleared by the vet to take her freedom flight to Canada. We know that after 5 years in a shelter, and now as a special needs dog, this will be the last chance we have for her to finally have a forever home to call her. Despite having been with the shelter for 5 years, she has done so well transitioning in her foster home. She is well behaved, quiet and gentle. While she enjoys her time with people and other dogs, she is also content just to have her own peaceful time. She does not complain or demand.

Her ideal home would be with a family living a quiet and relaxed life, and one who has the time to spend with her as she enjoys company. She would do fine as an only dog. If there is another resident dog, they should be calm and gentle just as she is. Her family should also be committed to regular check ups and keeping up with her medication. Youngyi has been through so much and waited so long. She is so deserving of a stable forever home and we want nothing more than to find that for her.

The adoption fee for Youngyi is $460CAD.
