*Note: Youngshik is currently with a foster in Vancouver.

Youngshik and his brother, Wooshik, were rescued from a restaurant near our partner shelter in Choocheon, Korea. They were tied to a pole outside on a hot summer day with no shelter or water. After being rescued, they lived with other dogs at our partner boarding house before flying to Canada to find their forever homes. Wooshik has since found his forever family, and now it’s Youngshik’s turn. He is currently living with a foster and 2 other dogs in Vancouver.

Youngshik is a very adorable and gentle boy. While he was a bit shy when he first arrived, it didn’t take him long to settle in and get familiar in his new surroundings. Once he has settled in, he is very generous with kisses. That being said, he is still a little shy when first meeting strangers until he has the opportunity to warm up.

Having grown up in a boarding house, and currently living with 2 other dogs in his foster home, Youngshik does well with other dogs. He is playful, social, and submissive with the other dogs in the home. While initially shy meeting new people, Youngshik warms up to new dogs almost immediately.

He walks well on leash. Although he does get startled by loud cars and trucks and that pass by, he is generally quite comfortable and confident outdoors. Youngshik is learning not to get overly excited when passing other dogs and people. He is also very interested in squirrels.

Indoors, Youngshik enjoys playing with his foster siblings, having a nap, and chewing on his toys. He does bark on occasion to alert of an unknown sound outside. However, what gets Youngshik’s attention the most is food and treats. He is very food motivated (in fact, a little too motivated. He eats too quickly and needs a slow feeder bowl), which makes training easier.

He is still working on potty training and doing his business outdoors. He knows the concept of a pee pad, but will sometimes miss the pad. However, his potty training is progressing well and we have confidence he will be fully potty trained with time.

Youngshik’s ideal home is with a household where people are home for the majority of the day to spend time with him. As he is still young, his family should be committed to continuing his socialization with people and other dogs. Youngshik would do fine as the only dog in the home, or as a brother to another friendly dog to play with. He would prefer a family with a more active lifestyle and can include him in their outdoor activities.
