* NOTE: Due to recent flight/travel restrictions resulting from Covid-19, it will take longer for your adopted dogs to get to you. Please only submit an application if you are able to wait until a flight volunteer can be secured. Please note we currently do not have a definitive timeline.

Our regular method of transporting dogs using flight volunteers has drastically decreased due to current flight/travel restrictions. An alternative, quicker option of flying via cargo can be made available, although at a greater financial cost. The cost can range from $1500 CAD to $3500 CAD depending on the size and weight of the dog, airline, and destination city. Dogs traveling via cargo will be able to arrive sooner as they are not dependent on travelers to bring them.

Youcheon was found roaming the streets of Paju, Korea in 2015. At the time of his rescue he was covered in dirt, emancipated, and was suffering from severe skin diseases. It took several months to get him healthy. Since then, he has been living in a shelter which cares for over 400 dogs. His best friend and former roommate, Soyou, (the white jindo seen in the photos), was adopted in 2018.

This lovely boy has been living in the shelter for the past 6 years without any prospects of adoption. It has been an endless cycle of making new doggy friends only to have them get adopted and being the one left behind. Each time it happens, Youcheon becomes very sad and withdrawn. The shelter he lives in is very humble; there are few resources to afford him enrichment. He has to stay in his kennel most of the time, which is outdoors. We hope we can find his home in Canada soon so he does not have to endure his 6th cold winter where he only has straw from bedding/warmth, and plastic tarp to guard his kennel from the wind.

Youcheon is shy around strangers, but is very sweet and obedient to the shelter staff and volunteers who he has come to know well. All he needs is a little time to adjust to new people and surroundings, as the shelter life is the only life he has known so far. But he deserves better.

His ideal family is with one who lives in a quiet neighborhood and has experience with shy dogs. A house with a fenced in yard is a requirement. A social and friendly sibling would be a big bonus for Youcheon as he likes to play with other dogs, and would be able to mirror and gain confidence from them.

We don’t want Youcheon to stay in the shelter any longer than he has been, wondering why all his friends have left him. No one in Korea wanted to give the mixed black dog a chance. Even in North America, black dogs have a more difficult time getting adopted, but we know the perfect family is out there for him, waiting to shower him with warmth and love.
