Update: Wansun has found a forever home in Vancouver. Yay!

Wansun was rescued as a stray in Paju, Korea in 2017. She was sent to a local shelter and has been living there with other dogs since then.

This beautiful girl enjoys being outdoors and likes to play with people. Unfortunately, being in a shelter with over 300 other dogs and limited staff/volunteers means she doesn’t have many opportunities to leave her kennel and spend time with people. Wansun craves the company of people and is happiest on the weekends when volunteers come and take her out for a short or playtime.  She is social, affectionate, and smart – she picks up new concepts quickly.

Although Wansun has limited experiences living in the shelter, she has a lot of potential and would make an excellent companion if she was provided the proper circumstances. Recently, a well known trainer visited the shelter and assessed Wansun’s behavior and temperament, to which he praised her for doing so well given her circumstances. Volunteers also took her out of the shelter for a walk and to explore the “outside world” where she absolutely enjoyed the freedom. When it was time to go back, Wansun, being the smart girl she is, resisted crossing the street back to the shelter and whined when it was time to go back into her kennel.

While Wansun makes friends easily with humans, she has a harder time with other dogs. We believe this may be a product of her environment, as shelter life does not provide her with ample mental or physical stimulation, or that she feels she has to compete for attention among hundreds of dogs. She could also simply innately not be a “dog’s” dog and prefer the company of people.

This beautiful girl’s ideal home is with a family who is experienced, or at least knowledge and understanding of Samoyed or northern breeds and the ability to handle a large dog. She is a wonderful companion and is very deserving of finally having a home to call her own.
