Nayoung

Update: Nayoung has found a forever home in Toronto. Yay!

NOTE: Nayoung is currently with a foster in Downtown Toronto

Nayoung was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Chungju, Korea last spring, and lived with other dogs at our partner boarding house before flying to Canada to find her forever home.

She is a very sweet, gentle, and friendly girl. While we expected some adjustment when she first arrived in Canada, she instead walked out of her crate right away and declared she had arrived! She promptly ate her food, relieved herself, and then went to ask for pets and attention. She loves attention from humans and will approach you every now and then when she feels she is in need of a hug or some pets.

Nayoung is very cooperative when putting on sweaters, jackets, and her leash and harness. She does not have any sensitivities to having her paws touched and will allow her foster to wipe her feet clean, although she doesn’t tolerate wearing winter boots. She is agreeable to putting on her leash and harness, and getting used to walks on the busy streets of downtown Toronto. Having come from a more rural area, she is still adjusting to the new sights and sounds, and her foster is taking it slow and exposing her little by little so it is not an overwhelming experience. So far, she has been doing great and has been curious, albeit startled by street cars. She is also currently reactive on leash and is learning how to build her confidence and approach other dogs in a healthy manner.

While she was acclimating to the city, Nayoung used pee pads indoors, which she was familiar with. (Although she sometimes confused the rug as a potty spot for her #2). Every since venturing outside, she has been consistently doing her business outdoors.

Food? Yes, please! Nayoung is very food motivated, and loves all kinds of teats. She has a very healthy appetite – so much so she has an internal clock which tells her exactly when meal times are. At exactly 8:05am, she barks and lets her foster know it is breakfast time, without fail. She can also get excited when her humans are eating, and is learning that counter-surfing and trying to prance around her humans during their meals is not acceptable.

Nayoung is an energetic and playful girl. While she loves human attention, she is independent enough to entertain herself with toys (second to food, toys are her second love). There are a few moments where she will play fetch with her foster, but then she goes right back to taking the ball to her own space to play on her own.

As her current foster lives in a condo, Nayoung will bark when she hears unfamiliar sounds, such as the sound of another unit’s door opening or the elevator. Although it is still early in her adjustment period, she is easily redirected from the situation which stops the barking. We believe she simply needs a bit of desensitization, but it is possible she will still bark at unknown noises to some degree after she settles in (she’s a terrier mix, after all!). She also gets a bit anxious when being left alone. Again, it is still early days for her, we are unsure if this will subside as she settles in. In any case, her foster sets her up with success by taking things slow and playing music to help calm her when she leaves the home, to which Nayoung responds well to.

Having lived in a boarding house with other dogs, Nayoung gets along well with other canines. She does not have experience with cats.

This happy girl’s ideal home is one where her humans are around for the majority of the day, as she loves being around people. She would likely do best in a home with more active humans (once she has acclimated to her new environment). Nayoung would do well both as an only dog, or with a doggy sibling.

Vaccination Details

DHPPL, Canine Influenza, Kennel Cough, Rabies, Corona, Heartworm test, Giardia test, Flea & tick & heartworm prevention are all done.
