Lucky 4

Lucky was found on the streets in Pyeongtaek, Korea in October 2020. She had been hit by a car and was lying down on the ground bleeding. A passerby who saw her and thought she was dead took a photo and posted it online. Thankfully, the photo caught the attention of volunteers who went to pick her up to take her to emergency.

Surgery was performed for sacroiliac and pelvic fractures. She also underwent a rehab program, including hydrotherapy and acupuncture. After about a year of hard work and therapy, Lucky started regaining her mobility and could walk independently again, although continuing hydrotherapy and regular walking is recommended.

A MRI scan found a T9 – T10 vertebral fracture causing spinal nerve damage. Essentially, the car accident caused a disconnect between the brain and nervous system. Although the nerves are still vital, it has trouble receiving brain signals. She is expected to improve further with consistent rehab and exercise. She has come a long way already as she initially had no function of her legs after the accident.

Lucky currently lives with a foster family in Korea with 2 other dogs, one of which is 8 years old and the other 3 years old. She loves to play with the younger dog and generally likes other dogs who are gentle and friendly. She also has experience with cats, as she is not reactive to the cats at the hydrotherapy center.

Lucky can be shy when meeting new people but warms up quickly. She is great once she has been introduced and is affectionate and friendly. She is very obedient and listens to commands well. Currently, her foster helps her with urination 3 times/day by gently massaging/pressing her belly. The specialist has advised with continued rehab, she will likely be able to regain her ability to urinate on her own. She can pass bowels without issue or assistence.

Among her favorite things are playing (with humans and other dogs), toys, fetch, sitting by the window and watching the world go by (she is quiet and does not bark at anything going on outside), going for walks (depending on the day, she can handle a 30min – 1 hour walk, although some days she may get tired more quickly or struggle more than others), car rides, and hanging out with her people.

Lucky was named because we feel so lucky to have been able to save her and help her live a life that could have ended much sooner, or could have been much worse.  Her ideal home would include:

– A home committed to continuing her rehab therapy to help her reach her full potential for the best possible quality of life. She has come a long way already but improvements can still be made.
– A home able to provide physical support when needed
– A home where someone can be home for the majority of the day to tend to her needs. And also because Lucky loves to be around people.
– A home with 1-2 doggy siblings she can follow and rely on is most ideal.

Her adoption fee is $460 CAD/ $360 USD

Vaccination Details

DHPPL, Canine Influenza, Kennel Cough, Rabies, Corona, Heartworm test, Giardia test, Flea & tick & heartworm prevention are all done.
