*NOTE: Free Korean Dogs is continuing to process applications for our adoptable dogs. However, recent flight restrictions beyond our control have hindered our ability to transport our dogs from Korea until July 2020 (or it may take longer) due to COVID-19. If this is a time line you are able to work with, please submit your application. If you meet our criteria, we will contact you for an interview.

Hyojoo was found on the streets in a small village near Paju Korea last winter. She was very beautiful so was adopted quickly. But the good time didn’t last long. After two days, the adopter complained about her shedding and surrendered her. Hyojoo was returned to a shelter. Even though it was only two days with the adopter, being surrendered was a traumtic experience for her. Hyojoo didn’t want to play with other dogs but only sat by the door as if she was waiting for the adopter to come back. While staying in the shelter, she was attacked by other dogs severeal times. No shelter life is easy, but it was particularly tough for Hyojoo.

Finally this spring Hyojoo found another foster family. She started playing and showing big smiles again. One thing that we notice is that she is protective of the foster family especially when she sees other dogs on the streets; sometimes she barks at them and lunges. It is seen as a fear and anxiety-based behavior. The foster family has been working on it and slowly starts seeing progress.

Hyojoo is a great companion dog. She loves the foster family and is very obedient and sweet to them. She also gets along well with other dogs as long as they are not agressive. Hyojoo really likes to run around and play fetch. She is also a great jumper. She can easily jump over a fence 1 meter in height.

The ideal adopter is someone who has experience with dogs and enjoys outdoor activities with a dog. Living in a quiet neighborhood with a lot of green spaces would be awesome.
