Left Behind, But Not Forgotten
Since 2015, Free Korean Dogs has shut down three dog meat farms, rescuing over 250 dogs in the process. While many of these survivors found loving homes in Canada and the United States, some dogs remain in our care because they’re too traumatized or medically fragile for adoption.
For these survivors, our shelter has become their permanent home.
The Reality of Rescue
Dogs rescued from the meat trade carry more than scars. Years of confinement, fear, and abuse left them with lasting trauma. Some gradually learn to trust humans again. Others remain frozen in fear, unable to overcome their past.
We spent years attempting rehabilitation with these most vulnerable dogs. Progress varies. Some have taken small steps forward, while others prefer the safety of distance. We respect their limits and love them for who they are, not who we wish they would be.

A Different Kind of Forever Home
Our 65 sanctuary dogs live at our shelter in Korea. It’s the only safe home they’ve ever known. While it may not match the forever homes we envision for our rescues, this shelter provides:
Many of these dogs are now seniors, requiring specialized medical care and age-appropriate accommodations.
Your Support Keeps Them Safe
When we rescued these dogs, we took on a life-long responsibility for their wellbeing. That responsibility comes at a cost. Monthly expenses for our sanctuary dogs include:
These dogs may never experience a traditional home, but your support ensures they live with dignity, safety, and comfort.
Two Ways to Sponsor
Every contribution directly supports the dogs who need us most. These are the dogs who cannot advocate for themselves or charm potential adopters, but who deserve our compassion and care.
