**Note: Mara is in her foster home living with another dog in Delta, BC.
Background: In December 2022, during the cold winter months, Mara was rescued from a dog meat farm in Ganghwa, Korea, as one of 51 lucky dogs. She lived at our boarding house in Korea until her departure. She’s now settling into a foster home in Vancouver, BC.
Personality and Socialization: Mara was a volunteer favorite, loved for her affectionate and easy-going nature. With a medium to low energy level, she enjoys cuddling with people but never demands attention. She’s obedient, calm, and easygoing—content just being in your presence, whether she’s sitting beside you or snuggling up for warmth.
One of Mara’s favorite activities is sitting in front of the heater or soaking up the sun when the weather is nice. She’s also great with other dogs, especially those who are gentle and friendly. Mara is thoughtful and respectful; if another dog needs some space, she’ll quietly sit by their side without disturbing them. She has no experience with cats or young children.
Behaviors: Mara is a happy, medium-energy girl who loves being with her people. She’s been great in the car, at the vet, and even during baths. New situations can make her a little nervous at first, but she’s always trusting and lets her humans guide her through. She’s fully house-trained and walks well on a leash, making outings a joy.
Mara’s only wish? Not to be left alone for long stretches. In her foster home, a nice walk before her human goes out helps her settle, and she can rest comfortably for about 3–5 hours. Still, she’s happiest when she can be with her people most of the time.
With her mellow, easy-going nature and her love for cuddles, Mara will make a loyal and affectionate companion for someone who’s home often and ready to share their heart.
Health and Diet: Mara is in great health and has been well taken care of. She’s up-to-date on vaccinations, spayed, and microchipped. She’s had negative parasite tests, including heartworms, and she takes monthly parasite prevention. Mara eats dry food twice a day and has shown no signs of allergies.
Ideal Home: Mara is a mellow, friendly girl who would thrive with a family that’s home most of the time. She loves lounging and simply being near her humans — that’s all she really needs. She doesn’t ask for special care, just the comfort of companionship and the warmth of someone who loves her.
She’ll be happy as either the only dog or with a canine friend, as long as she isn’t left alone for long hours. If you work from home and enjoy going for walks with your dog, Mara will be the perfect companion. She doesn’t ask for much — she just wants to be with you. If you live in a quiet neighborhood, that would be even better.
Born into heartbreaking conditions for meat consumption, she has already endured far more than any dog should. Now, she deserves a second chance — to know the joy of family life, to be cherished, and to wake up each day surrounded by love.
Give Mara the home she’s been dreaming of, and she will repay you with endless loyalty, wagging tails, and a heart full of devotion.
