Background: Benji was rescued from a neglectful hoarding situation. He was one of 19 dogs found abandoned in a parking lot and subsequently taken to a city pound. Thankfully, all 19 dogs were rescued from the pound. Currently, Benji is living with other dogs at our partner boarding house.

Personality and Socialization: Benji is a gentle and sweet soul, though he’s still a bit cautious and shy in new environments. He is a lovely and gentle boy who enjoys being around people. If you give him a little time and space, he will warm up beautifully. While he definitely likes human companionship, he needs patience as he comes out of his shell – it’s best to let him approach you. It’s heartwarming to see him following shelter staff he trusts; he’s very cute as he starts to open up.

When it comes to other dogs, Benji enjoys playing with those who are gentle and submissive. He can get scared by bossy or overly hyper dogs. Generally, he is good with other dogs as long as they are friendly and gentle.

Behaviours: Benji is quite good in the car and stays quiet. He has shown absolutely no destructive behaviour and doesn’t bark. He’s also well-behaved at the vet and during bath time. However, he is new to leash walks and can be a bit nervous wearing the harness and walking outside just yet. His adopter will need to be patient with this. Having a securely fenced-in backyard would be very helpful as he adjusts. He prefers to potty outdoors but will use indoor pee pads if necessary. He stays alone quietly without showing separation anxiety.

Health and Diet: Benji has been neutered, microchipped, and is up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He takes monthly internal and external parasite prevention and has shown no signs of allergies so far. He eats dry kibble twice a day. He has tested negative for heartworm and other parasites. It’s likely he and the other dogs were kept confined indoors for most of their lives.

Ideal Home: Benji would thrive with someone who has experience with dogs and leads a quiet, relaxing lifestyle. A patient and understanding owner who knows how to communicate gently with a shy dog would be excellent. Having another gentle, friendly dog in the home could be helpful as a positive role model, potentially helping Benji open up more quickly and build trust. However, this is not a must, as he often seems more interested in people than other dogs.

Overall, Benji is a fairly easygoing and low-maintenance dog. Although he’s still a bit shy and has a lot to learn about the world, we are sure that he will blossom beautifully as soon as he finds his patient and loving forever family.

Benji 3 is available for adoption. The fee to adopt Benji 3 is $780.

Note: US adopters are responsible for customs clearance fee, which is approximately $140 USD.
