Candy was rescued from a high kill shelter last winter. After her first vet exam post rescue, we believe she was used for breeding, and abandoned when she could no longer produce puppies for profit. She has since undergone mammary gland tumor surgery and has made a full recovery. She is currently staying with a foster family in Korea.

Despite the puppy mill conditions we believe she was raised in, Candy has a love of people. She opens up to pretty much anyone – men, women, children, seniors – and wins them over easily with her sweet and gentle personality.  She also gets along well with other dogs.

Considering her breed, Candy is quiet indoors and perfectly content hanging out with her humans. However, she does also like to be outside and has good leash manners. She does her potty business outdoors, and is also pee pad trained.

Her ideal adopter is someone living a relaxed lifestyle. As typical for her breed, she currently has separation anxiety and is building her confidence in being alone and knowing her humans will always come back (it doesn’t matter if she is left alone with another dog. She seeks human presence). As such, she will require a home where there can be someone at home until she is comfortable enough being alone. Her family should have a knowledge and understanding of separation anxiety, and how to slowly desensitize and counter condition the behavior in a slow, controlled, and positive approach.

Dachshunds are an amazing breed who make wonderful companions, but can be prone to skin allergies, back issues, and eye issues.  Although Candy is currently healthy and does not require additional medical attention, her adopter should be aware and prepared to provide such support if needed in the future. Knowledge and/or experience with the breed is an asset.

The adoption fee for Candy is $560CAD.
