We are the change we seek

With a new year comes new resolutions, and we have big goals on the horizon. Four and a half years ago, we would have never imagined we would be where we are today. Before Free Korean Dogs (FKD) was established, our founder and executive director EK never thought she would lead, much less institute an organization devoted to international rescue.

Happy First Birthday Free Korean Dogs

June 30, 2016 by Greg Mount

Friday, July 1st, marks two special occasions: Canada’s 149th birthday and our first year anniversary. Can you believe it’s been a year since we launched Free Korean Dogs? With all we’ve accomplished in the past year, there’s a lot to celebrate. Yet there’s still so much left to do for the dogs of Korea.

It’s serendipitous that our anniversary falls on Canada Day. Canada enjoys a global reputation for caring and compassion. We can be especially proud of how Canadians stepped up recently to help 25,000 Syrian refugees make Canada their new home. In fact, the World Giving Index ranks Canada the world’s 4th most charitable nation in 2015.

Local Support

SamsoonCloser to home, we at Free Korean Dogs feel the direct impact of Canada’s compassion for the dogs of Korea. We’re headquartered in Toronto, and have been involved in the local animal welfare community for many years. When EK was inspired to launch Free Korean Dogs, we were touched by the outpouring of support from our local community. As the community grew, we’ve had people from all across the country step up to help the dogs of Korea.

Many Canadians have opened their doors to provide forever homes for dogs rescued from the dog meat trade. Other help by organizing protests and raising public awareness. Still others help with much needed financial support.

Celebrate What Makes Us Great

Whatever you’re doing to celebrate on this Canada Day long weekend, please take a moment to reflect on the values that make us great. Compassion, generosity and the will to step up when others are in need.

As Bok Nal 2016 approaches, the dogs of Korea need your help. This summer thousands of dogs will be slaughtered to make dog meat soup. Our mission is to stop the suffering and end the Korean dog meat trade. Canada: help us celebrate our first birthday. Please support Free Korean Dogs.

A Look Back at a Year of Heartbreak and Hope

June 23, 2016 by Greg Mount 2 Comments

On July 1st, Free Korean Dogs will celebrate our first year anniversary. The year was full of challenges, struggle and sometimes heartache. But we are also very excited and encouraged by what we’ve achieved in such a short time. As July 1st approaches, now is a great time for a look back at what we hoped to accomplish, what we’ve achieved so far and where we need to go from here.
