Coconut’s Journey to Canada

January 28, 2018 by EK Park, Executive Director 2 Comments

I’ve always grown up with dogs, and my husband Omas and I agreed that we would get a dog once we were ready. As a couple who didn’t want to have kids, we knew that a dog would complete our little family.

I searched high and low for the perfect dog for us. For months I would send Omas posts for dogs up for adoption several times a day hoping he’d say yes to one. It was always “Not yet”, or “Just give it some more time”. One day I passed by Chook-Bok’s profile and I instantly fell in love. The head tilt! Oh that adorable head tilt! I immediately asked Omas and he said yes. We sent in our application and soon after we picked up Chook-Bok (who we renamed Coconut) from the airport. I remember sitting in the waiting area with Omas and my heart was beating faster and faster waiting for the moment she passed through the airport doors. When she finally came out it was hard to contain my excitement. All I wanted was to hold her and tell her she would be safe now and that I’d take care of her forever. I think she knew.

She’s been with us for a few weeks now and she’s the sweetest dog we’ve ever met. Anyone who meets her just melts into a puddle of aww’s. She’s made new doggy and human friends and learned that the world may not be all that bad. I would say Coconut’s ideal day would be spending the morning cuddling with us then a nice long hike followed by more cuddling (let’s just say we go through a lot of lint rollers!). We’re so grateful for her and we thank EK and the team at Free Korean Dogs for helping us find her.

What a great story. I love to read how these survivors of such trauma find the perfect home.
Thanks for sharing such a happy ending.
