The following is a letter from one of our adopters Romeo Tuazon. He rescued Marty a little over two months ago. Marty has been adjusting well, and he is even helping Romeo with some health issues!
Marty is such a good dog and companion to us. He is well behaved and is so attached to me like glue… we are bonded together. Marty knows every corner of our house now and wherever I go in the house, Marty always follows me. Whenever I am on errands and leave him with my wife at home, she tells me that Marty keeps on whimpering and looking for me all the time. As soon as I return home, Marty will just run and jump to me non-stop, tail wagging, and I can tell he’s so happy and excited that I am back.
The only issue we had with Marty was during the first 3 days. After we picked him up at the YVR airport he would neither eat, drink, walk on leash nor do anything other than lie down and sleep. We were not alarmed though since we knew the ordeal he has gone through. Finally, on the 4th day, he started to nibble on food a little bit and I tried putting the leash on him again, so we could have a short walk around the block.
As days went by, Marty became excited to see the leash, he knew we will be taking a walk. At first, he was very scared of the loud traffic noise but not anymore. Now every morning for more than 2 months now, we take our daily long walks (with 7 kms in almost 2 hours being our longest walk so far!). Marty and I both enjoying our daily time together on our walks. Marty is such a calm baby and so friendly to other dogs as well as to other people. One thing we notice with Marty though is that he hardly barks even when the doorbell rings. I think I only heard him bark twice from day one. So, I am not worried, and we don’t see this as an issue. I guess that is just his trait or personality.
To my wife’s surprise, my overall health improved quite a bit since adopting Marty. My blood pressure is back to normal (after struggling with high bp for years) and my weight came down to where it should be. We are very very glad and lucky to have Marty as a new member of our family.
And thank you so much EK for helping us rescue Marty!
