Winner was found at a chicken farm last summer, where by instinct, he tried to chase a chicken. However, the owner of the chicken farm caught him, and severely beat him as punishment.

When a neighbor witnessed the incident, they called the police and reported him for animal abuse. The chicken farm owner’s daughter, fearing her father would be penalized, told police she would adopt the dog and provide him a good home, and no further action was taken by authorities. However, knowing we could not trust the situation, Winner was removed from the home and taken to the safety of a boarding house.

Still healing from the trauma, Winner did not do well at the boarding house. Too many people coming and going made him nervous, and anytime someone came near him he would tremble and urinate in fear. In order to give him a more quiet and stable environment, he was moved to a foster home in Korea, where he currently lives.

Winner has been with his foster for about a month and a half (as of Sept 2021) and has slowly been opening up, especially with his foster mom who he now follows around. Although he is still nervous around men, he shows some curiosity about people. His foster family has been working with a trainer, who says he is progressing well.

Winner has a very quiet, shy, and submissive personality. Even when he was being beaten by the farmer, he never tried to bite to defend himself. When he is in uncomfortable situations such as going to the vet, he never reacts in a reactive/aggressive manner no matter how scared he is. With dogs, Winner is more partial to small female dogs. He is indifferent to male dogs. When his canine foster siblings, who can be quite bossy, try to provoke him, he lets out a small growl on occasion but never escalates the situation.

Winner is very quiet indoors, and doesn’t show signs of separation anxiety in his current foster home (although we recognize this could change during his adjustment period in his forever home). He is house trained and enjoys going for walks.

This sweet boy’s ideal home is with a family who has experience with dogs, and more importantly the patience and understanding that he is still healing from his emotional trauma which will take time. His home should have a strong female presence as he is still getting used to men. He would enjoy a relaxed and calm environment in a quiet neighborhood.
