Hansel is a Standard Poodle who is on the small side from being malnourished.  He’s 16 months old and with re-feeding will fill out and maybe grow another inch or so.  His heart however, is big and wide open, with nothing stunted about his loving, affectionate nature or potential to learn.

In just a few days in Canada, Hansel has acclimatized to living in a dog-filled house – chilling, playing chase and having naps together – navigating stairs, earning treats, walking on a leash, meeting neighbours, sleeping through the night and doing his business outside.  After an initial warning bark, he greets house visitors with affection – paying attention to instructions from his foster mom about who is ok.

He is currently learning commands for off, sit and lie down as well as walking etiquette.  He likes going to his crate, as that’s where his treats and food are given.  He enjoyed his first car ride, safely tethered in the back seat with room to look out the window and discover the sights and smells of the city.  His foster mom has a home office and he is happy to lie beside her and be a muse for her work.

Hansel is an extremely affectionate and intelligent dog who will need a family to provide a high level of phyical and mental stimulation.  With his smaller size and Standard Poodle aptitude, he would be a great candidate for agility or other challenging and fun activity.

Hensel is in Toronto now.
