Pickle was only a small puppy when her abusive owner threw her out of a window. She lost the use of her back legs as a result. Thankfully, a neighbor witnessed the incident and reported the incident to the police, where the owner confessed to the crime.

When we were contacted about Pickle, we expected a very terrified and withdrawn puppy. However, when we met her we found quite the opposite – a happy go lucky who was so happy to meet people and didn’t realize she was any different from other dogs. She is a typical puppy who likes attention, cuddles, and meeting new people and other dogs.

We have been doing an attentive therapy program with Pickle to save the damaged nerve cells, which has included electrotherapy, acupuncture, hydrotherapy, ultrasound therapy, laser treatments, and massage therapy, and have already seen vast improvement in a short period. Pickle always does what is asked and needed during therapy and never complains. She is a small but mighty trooper. What used to be “lifeless” legs dragging behind her now has some control. She is also now able to control her bowels and subsequently bowel movements. Recently, Pickle was able to stand on her own, putting her body weight on her back legs.

Pickle is pee pad trained and will relieve herself on the pads, but wears a diaper (to protect her skin and area when she goes out), or when she is excited and wants to play (ie: when she is exerting more movement). She will do her business approximately 3 times a day. She is currently not spayed as anesthesia could be risky (following our vet’s advice). However, this may change in the future as she continues to grow stronger. Her adoption contract will include a non-breeding clause as a result of this condition.

This special girl’s ideal home is with a family who would be willing and committed to continuing her therapy treatments, especially hydrotherapy. We have seen a lot of progress already but know that Pickle still hasn’t reached her full potential. It is difficult at this point to tell if she will ever walk again, but after so much progress in only a few months we are optimistic about her future and would like to give her the best head start possible. A home where someone is home most of the day and able to spend time with her, because she is still young and loves to be around people, is ideal. Other than that, Pickle is not much different from a “normal” dog. She navigates her wheelchair with ease and just wants to hang out with people.

Her adoption fee will be $460 CAD/ $360 USD and will include her wheelchair.
